About The Nominees

Colleagues, patients, friends and family members may nominate extraordinary nursing professionals in 18 award categories Jan. 27 through March 2, 2020.

A panel of nursing professionals will read and review all nominations, selecting the Top 3 nominees from each of the 18 categories by March 9.

The public will then have an opportunity to read the nomination stories of the Top 3 nurses and vote for the top nurse in each category.

The Top 3 nurses in each category will be honored at the inaugural Recognizing Nurses Gala, rescheduled to September 10, 2020*.

About The Gala

The staff at The Oklahoman, along with the Oklahoma Nurses Association, will welcome area nurses to Recognizing Nurses 2020, a red carpet gala at the Criterion music venue in Oklahoma City, with more than 300 guests in attendance. The gala has been rescheduled to September 10, 2020*.

Before the awards ceremony, nominees and their guests will enjoy food, cocktails and live music from the Adam Aguilar band.

“The nominations and awards gala are testaments to the appreciation Oklahoma residents have for those in the nursing profession,” said Jane Nelson, CAE, chief executive officer at the Oklahoma Nurses Association.

“Nurses are the backbone of patient care — they’re ordinary people doing the extraordinary,” Nelson said. “Sometimes they don’t realize the work that they do 24/7 is truly going above and beyond. Being nominated and recognized by their peers for an accolade like this is an affirmation that what they’re doing makes a difference.”

Each year, the program will honor the Top 3 nominees in each of the 18 award categories.

The Recognizing Nurses Gala corresponds with National Nurses Week, which is observed May 6-12 each year and celebrates the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
